Women's summer shirts are a popular choice for women alike. They are almost exclusively worn during the summer months and can be seen across the world. They are however most popular in Hawaii which should come as no big surprise.
The shirts themselves are almost always short sleeved, (the long sleeve is for those who want to protect their skin from the sun). This goes along with them being worn during the warmer months of the year. They also usually have a collar and have at least some buttons attached to them.
Their patterns are what make them so popular and instantly recognizable. The patterns have almost endless combinations. Some of the more common ones that you will see are: simple floral patterns, vehicles, beverages, palm trees, and tapa designs.
In Hawaii itself, they are considered to be formal wear. This is in large part because of Hawaii's climate. Because it is so hot there it would make no sense for people to wear suits and traditional dress shirts and ties. The shirts have a relatively long history dating back to the early 1930's. It was then that a Chinese merchant named Ellery Chun started to sew vivid colored shirts for tourists.
At the time, Chun was based on the island of Waikiki. A local newspaper coined the term aloha shirt which Chun later trademarked himself. It was not until after the Second World War that their popularity really took off. Celebrities such as John Wayne, Jimmy Buffett, and Elvis Presley started to wear them on a regular basis.
Here are some of my favorite women's summer shirts that I recommend to you:
